health advocate Susan Smiley has presented
|
Out of the Shadow and spoken at numerous
|
professional conferences and advocacy
|
sponsored screenings. She has also presented
|
the film and lead discussions for many
|
psychiatry grand rounds in teaching hospitals
|
throughout the United States.
|
In addition, she has made several keynote
|
addresses for special events for policymakers,
|
mental health centers, fundraising events and
|
trade conferences.
|
|
She has presented the film to staff at SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) and other federal agencies, as well as
to numerous legislators at the county, state and federal levels.
|
|
Ms. Smiley is committed to furthering the understanding of serious mental illnesses, while advocating on behalf of those who suffer from them.
As a family caregiver, and child of a mother with schizophrenia, she openly speaks of it's difficulties, while instilling messages of hope and recovery.
